Verde Bairro 2.0

Naturalising the city, as a community.

Verde Bairro 2.0 is the return of a new edition of a previous successful community-oriented project to revitalize public spaces, transforming them into green and socially engaging areas.

This project addresses the issues of social isolation, and the lack of pleasant public spaces adapted to climate change, seeking to develop urban public spaces that promote community interaction, especially for elderly and other vulnerable citizens, and that provide climate adaptation services, such as protection against heat waves.

Intervention areas: Centro Histórico e Courela da Pedreira, Montemor-o-Novo

Through several workshops, residents of neighborhoods in Montemor-o-Novo will be capacitated and empowered to create and maintain sustainable mini-gardens. These small interventions, together, as a community, can transform the areas into Green Neighborhoods, promoting community cohesion and environmental resilience.

In the short term, we aim to improve social interaction and environmental awareness. In the long term, the project will ensure durable community-led stewardship of urban green spaces and consolidate the value of the methodology and its potential for replication.

The Verde Bairro 2.0 project is part of EIT Urban Mobility’s “CONNECT New European Bauhaus” program, which is financed by the European Union.
