Naturalising the city, as a community.
Verde Bairro is a community-based intervention methodology that aims to transform public urban green spaces into infrastructures for climate change adaptation and social cohesion.
his methodology was developed and tested by Marca-ADL in Montemor-o-Novo, across two urban areas with different characteristics, between 2021 and 2025.

How it works?
The Verde Bairro methodology is a consultancy service that helps transform urban public spaces into greener, more naturalised places with stronger connections to people and community life.
Through local diagnosis, community engagement and the design of practical solutions, it delivers low-cost, high-impact interventions focused on urban naturalisation, community activation and place-based enhancement, involving citizens in the co-design and co-management of the solutions put in place.

Where can it be applied?
Verde Bairro can be applied in neighbourhoods, historic centres, residential areas and small towns seeking to improve public space, strengthen community ties and respond to climate challenges.
It is a flexible solution for municipalities, parish councils and local organisations looking to create more attractive, resilient and participatory places.

How we do it?
- Identification and activation of key local stakeholders
- Communication and mobilisation strategies tailored to each community
- Environmental education activities and engagement with school communities
- Participatory dynamics that bring people, organisations and public space closer together
- Co-design of urban naturalisation and place-based enhancement solutions
- Capacity building for the co-management and long-term sustainability of interventions
